Thought about the gay study stuff

Remember a study sponsored by gay that claimed that gay couples last longer than hetersexual ones? If that were the case, how come AIDS first spreaded around homosexual people in america widely when a single guy got it from africa? I remember in the case, many homosexual people are drug users too. They probably didnt count any of those people as gay couples in that study.
